EEG Biosignal interpretation, usability research eeg interpretation
Hello,
maybe it is a very basic question, already answered.
I don't expect to know the algorithm but how do emotiv evaluate interest, engagement etc.. does it use, for example, brain frontal asymmetry à la Davidson?
Frontal/ temporal theta for memory encoding evaluation?
Do you evaluate facial EMG (ie. zygomaticus / corrugator) activity? or eyes movement?
I'm working in the usability - user experience field with EEG/ GSR and Bioera software, but EMOTIV seems to be a great instrument I'd like to try,I'd just like to know if your standard measures are enough or I need an extensive work on signal analysis
thank you for any reply
Giancarlo
Hi Giancarlo,
We were influenced by published studies in developing our detections, but only to an extent, where we added some small additional weighting to reported measures which indicated specific emotional responses. In general our detections were developed from our own experimental data using standard and custom input features and our own expert systems development systems. The process is described in more detail in the thread <Validity of the Affectiv Suite>

I suggest the answer is a combination - Emotiv detections will form part of the input you require, but you will need to develop and expand the detections, possibly adding your own analysis from raw EEG, to get features which are meaningful in your particular context.

We are happy to assist in the process (resources allowing).
